Review 3

Due according to the class schedule.

In this assignment, you will review work from the email assignments.

Throughout the semester this application must be functioning correctly.

Another Machine

Create another virtual machine. Give the machine one of your unused IP addresses, and a host name in your main production domain. Be sure that this system has /etc/hosts configured correctly for its host name and IP address.

Another Mail Server

Install and exim for the new system.

Configure exim on this system to receive and keep any email messages that have the machines fully qualified domain name in the host part of the email address.

Configure exim on this system to send outgoing messages via the smarthost

Fake Satellite System

Choose an IP address in your LAN that is not in use. Use your DNS system to give a name to that IP address. The name should be in your main production domain.

Relay Configuration

Configure the new mail server to relay messages for and the IP of your fake satellite system. It should not relay for any other systems.

Destination Names

Configure the new mail server to accept and keep email messages that have your fake satellite’s hostname as the host name part of the email address. This is in addition to the new mail server’s host name. No other host names should be accepted. No wild cards should be used.

Mail Exchange

Configure your DNS system so that other MTAs will know that email messages to your fake satellite should be sent to your new mail server.

Mail User

Create a new user on the new mail server. Use the user to test the sending and receiving of email messages. Be sure to send to both host names to verify correct functionality.

Mail Reading

Configure the dovecot IMAP software on the new system. Configure it to only allow secure, encrypted connections. Test that IMAP is working correctly by connecting to it with an easily configured MUA.

Submission File Format

The submission file is a UNIX text file, and must have this format, exactly!
