POSSIBLE TEST QUESTIONS
(Things I think you should know about how to use Strata StudioPro)

For the mid-term:
  • To duplicate selected objects, what modifier key do you hold down?

  • How do you set the resolution for a rendering?

  • How can you determine the actual size of an object in the model?

  • What formats can Strata StudioPro open? What can it save?

  • What formats can be used for image maps that are used in surface textures?

  • What method of anti-aliasing is used by StudioPro to smooth the edges in rendered images?

  • What lens setting should you used for drawing and positioning objects in a modeling window? What about for rendering images?

  • What rendering method is best for transparent, refractive objects?

  • What are the three object properties controled by the transform palette?

  • What is the general term for the basic 3-D objects drawn by tools on the Tools Palette?

  • If you have too much light in a scene, there are three ways to control overexposure in a rendered image. Which is the best overall choice for adjusting the light intensity?

  • What modifer key(s) do you hold down when you want to constrain the movement of an object to horizontal or vertical as you drag it in the model space?

  • If you want to create a shiny, reflective texture to apply on an object, what combination of Ambient, Diffuse, Specular, and Reflective settings would yield the desired result?

  • What is the keyboard shortcut to fit the views in a modeling window to a single selected object?

  • What is the single most obvious advantage to using shapes to construct objects in a complex model?

  • What are the two general types of textures that can be created and applied to objects in StudioPro?

  • How do you show and hide the various palettes in StudioPro?

  • What would the color of an object be if the texture applied to it has settings of no ambient, no diffuse, no specular, no reflectivity, and no transparency?

For the final:
(Some questions from the mid-term test may also be asked again on the final)
  • What are the three ways that you can make a hole through an object (as it appears when rendered)?

  • What is the Project palette/window?

  • What is the purpose of the Project Window?

  • How do you set the frames per second for an animation?

  • How do you make the light rays from a local light source visible in a rendered image or animation?

  • why does an object listed in the Project Window have more than one set of markers on the time line when an animation action or motion is created for it?

  • What is the difference between spline and linear paths for an object's motion?

  • How do you hide or show animation paths?

  • How do you render an image with an alpha channel?

  • When creating a complex animation sequence, why is using shapes to break the motion down into simpler actions the best technique?

  • How many colors are available in a rendered image saved with 8 bits/pixel? 24 bits/pixel?

  • How should compound objects in Adobe Illustrator be made so they are valid objects when imported into StudioPro?

  • What is a deformation latice?

  • What is the advantage of using a deformation latice instead of explicit geometry?

  • How do you attach a deformation latice to an object in StudioPro? How do you un-attach it?

  • Can an object have more than one deformation latice attached to it?
  • What is the advantage of using a camera object to set the view position for rendering? Are there different reasons for animations compared to stills?

  • What is a gel? How does it work?

  • What is a flex-object? How is it made? How do you create the animation?

NOTE: This is not all of the questions that I may ask in the written tests, but if you can answer these questions you will know everything to do well on the test9s). The questions on the actual test will not be phrased as you read them here. When I ask about specific keystroke shortcuts, I may also ask where the equivalent menu command is located.
