DSU Summer STEM Activities 2017

GIRLS GO DIGITAL is a computer science and technology camp for girls ages 8-18. Learn how to HACK, DESIGN, CODE & MAKE using technology and computer science. Any level of interest and experience is welcome. If you attended this camp last summer, no problem—we’ve added new classes and activities. From computer programming, micro controllers, pixel art, digital photography, e-textiles, to web design and more, we’ve got something for every girl! Girls are grouped in classes by age. CODECHANGERS offers a unique technology education experience with an on-line, self-paced program, after school classes and camps that is easy to use and carefully mixed with hands-on activities designed to help inspire creativity and connection to real-world projects. 2017 CodeChanger Camps - $250


eSMART (exploring Science, Math and Related technologies) is a summer camp for girls entering the 8th grade started by the St. George, Utah chapter of the American Association of University Women to encourage our girls to reach high and love to learn so they can be anything they want to be. Dixie State University is our main partner and hosts the camps. Girls spend five days and four nights in the dorms at DSU as part of their first college experience! Camp includes a variety of STEM workshops taught by successful women in STEM careers. Camp cost is $600+ but offered at a reduced rate due to grants and donations. 2017 eSMART Camp - $150


Dixie PREP Dixie PREP provides three summers of rigorous academic instruction, educational hands-on projects, challenging homework assignments, and daily career awareness for 7th, 8th, and 9th grade students who have an interest and aptitude in Science, Technology, Engineering, and/or Mathematics fields. Dixie PREP strives to provide opportunities for underrepresented and first generation students to pursue STEM studies and careers. Apply by May 1st, 2017 at math.dixie.edu/dixie-prep/

2017 Dixie PREP - No Cost


CODE SCHOOL is an intensive nine-week course for students who are interested in jumpstarting their web programming careers. Interaction with the local industry is facilitated by Code School, and many participants are placed in internships and jobs within the software and web industries upon completing the course. Participants will learn modern web technologies, including advanced HTML5 and CSS, JavaScript, databases, frameworks, and client-side and server-side web application development, applied to real-world projects in a concentrated, quick-paced format. Cost is free! Selected participants will have tuition covered through scholarships. Applications accepted through April 3. Apply at www.cit.dixie.edu/codeschool

2017 Session of Code School - No cost


DESIGN SCHOOL is an intensive nine-week course for students who are interested in jumpstarting their user interface design and user experience design careers (UI/UX). Interaction with the local industry is facilitated by Design School, and many participants are placed in internships and jobs within the design and web industries upon completing the course. Participants will learn the fundamental concepts of user experience design, including designing user flows, prototyping, wireframing, creating mockups, and testing designs with potential users, all applied to real-world projects in a concentrated, quick-paced format.
