DRAF1040 - Introduction to Architecture
This class is designed to bring an individual to an understanding of the dynamics of residential architecture.
The content will include activities in architectural style, expenses, design, and local codes. Students will
build a portfolio of information to enable them to design their own residence.
Course Content:
Files will be placed in a 3-ring binder that will include:
a. Team names
b. Guest speaker profile
c. Xerox of your Architectural style
d. Floor plan
e. Client information sheet
f. Other info for the project
Samples will be placed in a "plastic box"
a. Color samples
b. Siding samples
c. Roofing samples
d. Appliance information sheets
e. Etc.
Class Format
The "Constructivist Approach" will be applied. Students will be solving problems, making values clarification,
projecting economic issues, and so on. Each group of students will establish a set of values from a given
criteria list, then design the residence of their choice. A group presentation and a guest speaker will also
be part of the class requirements.
